13 Aug 2017 Want to change your life? It starts with you.
When I founded Create+, people often asked why I chose that name. What does Create+ mean?
For me, the choice was easy. I wanted to foster an environment of change. I wanted people to be the creators of the next chapter of their lives, rather than just managing the circumstances they were currently in. To create and to decide how your life is going to pan out is an extremely powerful thing for an individual to do.
Over the years I have worked with thousands of clients, and every one of them was different. A large proportion of them had chronic pain, and every story behind that pain was unique. For those with hypermobility and the pain associated with it, I devised individual treatment plans.
When you have lived with chronic pain, it can be all consuming. It has the ability to dominate your every waking moment. The result can be psychological as well as physical pain. That is until the individual decides enough is enough. They want to take back control of their life. Rather than being defined by it, they find ways to manage, alleviate and even eliminate the pain. The point when this happens will be different for everyone, but typically there is a moment; something happens that pushes you out into the unknown.
The hardest and bravest part of this is accepting that the change comes from within. This is something that no-one else can do for you. There are people who can guide you, inspire you, facilitate and support you, but real change comes from you. In a supportive, patient and creative environment, change can happen – I’ve seen it many, many times.
What will the next chapter of your life look like?
If you could take an empty book and write down exactly how you want your life to be, what would it say? How are you going to make that happen? Who, or what, do you need to create the right environment?
Write it. Find it. Do it. That book needs to be written.
I, for one, can’t wait to read it.
